TESTIMONIALS

Pan Jue Wen, Osel

The Chinese language lessons at SHHKACT taught me many methods and ways to answer questions in examinations. For example, ways to answer the open-ended comprehension questions, how to identify points for each question and how to use clues; like matching of phrases to answer the cloze passages. These techniques have been taught and constantly practised during the lessons. I am in Secondary 4 this year and have attended the classes for 3 years. The lessons have helped me to improve my grades from a D7 when I first entered, to a B3 just within one term.

My son is studying in K2 this year. He used to be a very quiet boy but after attending lessons at SHHKACT, he is more expressive now and loves to watch Chinese TV programmes. My wife was also an educator and the purpose of sending our two children to SHHKACT is not only to encourage them to learn Chinese Language in a conducive environment, but also to be immersed in the Chinese culture.

I have been sending my children to Hokkien Huay Kuan Arts & Cultural Troupe for about 18 years. Their childhoods were spent learning at the Arts & Cultural Troupe. The learning environment and culture are conducive in grounding my children's foundation in the Chinese language and grooming them to be very conscientious. Their grades have shown improvement throughout the years. The instructors at the Cultural Troupe are good and the course materials provided are comprehensive. We, as parents, are very satisfied.

I feel that Hokkien Huay Kuan Arts & Cultural Troupe helped me build up my self-confidence, especially during my early childhood. I fell in love with the Chinese language because of SHHKACT. It is a virtuous cycle, because of my interest in the Chinese language, learning it in school had taken on a new perspective.

I fell in love with the Theatre Arts and turned it into a career choice because of Hokkien Huay Kuan Arts & Cultural Troupe. I was apprehensive when I was first selected to join the Children Performance Troupe as my Chinese standard was far from impressive. Through this invaluable learning experience, I embarked on a journey of self discovery of my strengths and weakness.

Quoting my Mum, ‘If it was not for Hokkien Huay Kuan Arts & Cultural Troupe, my brother and I would have gone astray. What would you all do during the weekends, if not for the weekly Chinese lessons, loitering along the void decks?’ I felt that I had learnt a lot from the lessons at ACT, and my Chinese was much better than most of my classmates.
